Primary packaging
The bottle, cap, pump and label are the primary package. Coordinated color and a quality cap have the biggest influence on how the product feels.
Secondary packaging
- Folding cartons: lightweight printed outer packaging
- Rigid boxes: premium presentation for gifts and luxury
- Inserts: foam or molded trays that hold the bottle securely
- Sets: coordinated multi-bottle arrangements
Export packaging
Bottles are packed in partitioned cartons and palletised to protect glass over long transport. Plan the number of cartons and pallets with the carton calculator and see the packaging guide.
Matching the box to the retail channel
A folding carton keeps a lightweight, mail-order-friendly product and is economical for high volume, while a rigid box is used where the unboxing and shelf presence justify the cost, such as gifts and fine fragrance. The insert should be designed around the actual bottle and cap rather than a generic cavity, so the components do not move and damage the decoration in transit. For online channels, the outer and inner package should also survive the more aggressive handling of parcel networks.
Decide the carton, insert and export carton together with the bottle, because a late change to the cap or box can alter the carton dimensions and the pallet loading and invalidate the original shipping estimate.
